How do you find a substantial way to touch upon themes such as familial bonds, tradition and its conflict with modern life, as well as the responsibility of legacy, among many other smaller or larger existential questions? Sometimes the only thing you need is a farm with fluffy, woolly sheep. Rakel abandons her life of urban prosperity in Norway to return along with her wife, Ida, to her parents’ farm who are getting ready to retire.
Music, which was up till now her nine-to-five, is replaced by the bleating of the sheep while her everyday life, her concerns, as well as her joys undergo a radical shift in tone, meter, and rhythm. Her sister, Rebekka, stands behind the camera lens, following Rakel on this journey of self-discovery, filled with love, tenderness, and truth, seeking a new life that may not always be easy, but is indeed possible at times.
