In Kalighat, one of India’s oldest and most stigmatized red-light districts, a remarkable filmmaking movement is quietly transforming lives. Redlight to Limelight follows CAM-ON, a self-taught collective of sex workers and their children who use the camera to reclaim their stories, challenge generational stigma, and reimagine their futures.
Through vérité scenes, deeply personal testimonies, and self-shot footage, the film captures the making of their boldest work yet—a short fiction film inspired by their own lives—and the cathartic public screening that follows. What begins as a creative experiment becomes a powerful act of resistance, healing, and collective pride.
At once intimate and inspiring, Redlight to Limelight offers a rare insider’s perspective into a world too often ignored or misrepresented. It’s a visually rich, emotionally compelling story of dignity, joy, and the radical power of storytelling from within.
