Moldova is moving toward the European Union — but with Transnistria or without it? Over the past 30 years, a distinct political and social identity has taken shape there. Yet the economies and environments remain interconnected, as do transport routes and energy systems.

The question is pressing: can a country integrate into the EU while hosting a frozen conflict, or is the only way forward to keep moving, leaving the region “on pause”?
