“Documentaries Reflect Society”: Highlights from the Opening of the 9th Moldox Festival, with Four More Days of Films Ahead

Yesterday, November 27, the 9th edition of the Moldox Festival—an international event celebrating documentary film and social change—kicked off at Cineplex Loteanu.

The opening brought together filmmakers, artists, musicians, actors, civic activists, journalists, writers, and opinion leaders to spotlight pressing global and local issues. Through the lens of documentary films, directors from over 12 countries shared powerful stories about life in their communities, offering unique perspectives on the challenges we face.

This year’s program features 27 documentaries, public discussions moderated by renowned writer Vasile Ernu, Q&A sessions with filmmakers, networking events, and concerts. On the first day alone, six films were screened, with daily showings continuing until December 1 at Cineplex Loteanu from 2 PM to 10 PM. Film enthusiasts are encouraged to attend. Tickets, priced symbolically, can be purchased at the cinema or via the festival’s official website: https://moldoxfestival.com/program/.

The 2024 edition sets a new record with the largest number of documentaries in the festival’s history, including eight created by Moldovan filmmakers. Adding to this year’s significance, the Moldox Festival coincides with the CinemaHora Forum, organized by the National Cinematography Center of Moldova. Together, these events temporarily transform Chișinău into a European cinema hub, drawing industry professionals from around the globe.

The festival will conclude on December 1 with a special closing ceremony at Cineplex Loteanu, featuring the screening of the Bhutanese documentary Agent of Happiness.
