The Beitar Jerusalem football club, established in 1936, is the most popular and controversial football team in Israel, long associated with the Likud political party and the only Israeli Premier League club that never had any Arabian player. After a secret transfer of owner, the Russian-Israeli oligarch Arcadi Gaidamak brought two players from Chechnya.
