Apply for the EXPLORATION workshop @MOLDOX Lab 2020!

Exploration workshop invites all young people from Cahul, as well as from the entire country, to contribute to social change in their communities through documentary film, within the workshop, during 5 days, in the period of September 9-13, 2020. The course is very intense, but it is a wonderful challenge!

Theory is important, but practice is just as important. Together with the workshop tutors, you will learn the basics of filming equipment, editing programs and documentary filmmaking and you will immediately plunge into making your own short documentary film. This year, due to the global situation and safety reasons, participants will not be allowed to go filming outside, but will learn how to create a film in a creative place, outside the town of Cahul. Under the guidance of Nora Agapi, the short documentaries will be created with images taken in the proximity of the work space, as well as with images from personal archives, with themselves and their dear ones, in their daily activities and in discussions on different subjects, starting with the problems in their communities and continuing with the ideas and concepts about the world.

In a very short time you will learn a lot not only about the filmmaking process, but also about yourself, your limits, your power of persuasion, how to communicate with people and how to be resourceful and inquisitive while shooting your impactful film.

Inspiration workshop @MOLDOX Lab helps you create the best version of your documentary film!

You get inspired when you work together! Therefore, within the two modules (August 5-9 and September 9-13), the participants, with the mentorship of the tutors Hjalmar Palmgren (Sweden) and Melody Gilbert (USA), will learn how to build the best version of their films’ trailers, how to write the synopsis in a manner in which it will truly reflect the subject of the film, as well as the essential elements of documentary film scriptwriting. Also, they will have the possibility to communicate with tutors and special invitees within several individual work sessions, where they will be offered detailed feedback and recommendations.

The young film directors will benefit from international expertise and learn about all the steps in a film production process, how to present their documentary in order to attract the interest of potential co-producers and patrons, as well as about different possibilities of networking, which will ensure their films with greater visibility on the European documentary film market.

Within the workshop, the participants will also be in direct communication with different professionals in the field, like the film editor Phil Jandaly, who will conduct masterclasses on several subjects related to the production of a documentary film, as well as with successful film directors, who will talk about the path they took, step by step, in the creation of their films.

The first module will take place in an online video format, and the second one will be organized in Cahul. The workshop will conclude with one-on-one meetings, public pitching and screening of your doc project at the MOLDOX festival, where your pitch will be judged by European industry experts who will select four projects to attend networking and training programs in Europe.

This intensive documentary film development workshop is an ideal next step for more experienced filmmakers, journalists, and visual storytellers who have already identified a subject for a documentary and, ideally, have started production. So far, within the 4 years of MOLDOX Lab, 24 projects have passed through the Inspiration workshop and 10 awards have been given to networking events and not only throughout Europe by our LAB partners (Balkan Documentary Center, Baltic to Black Sea Documentary Network, DOCUDAYS UA, Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival, One World Romania and European Documentary Center and others).

Apply for the INSPIRATION workshop until July 15, by filling in the participation form. You can find more details about the workshop by following this link.

INSPIRATION workshop @MOLDOX Lab 2020

ADVANCED DOCUMENTARY DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS: PITCH. DEVELOP. EDIT. SCREEN.

The 2020 INSPIRATION workshop is looking for Moldovan projects with a strong social relevance or those inspiring social change. This year, the workshop will take place in two parts:

Module I  (August 05-09, 2020) focused on developing the proposed project, editing the trailer and study cases.

Module  II (September 09 -13, 2020), where you will learn how to write and speak about your story to potential financers and organizations in the field, you will work on perfecting your pitching skills and techniques together with the experts in the industry.

The workshop will conclude with one-on-one meetings, public pitching and screening of your doc project at the MOLDOX festival, where your pitch will be judged by European industry experts who will select four projects to attend networking and  training programs in Europe. You will leave this workshop with a solid foundation that will help you approach your film’s development stage in a more efficient and clear manner, and apply with your project for grants, crowdfunding and/or pitching forums.

The workshop is aimed at training documentary filmmakers from Moldova, who are directing their own project that tackles a strong topic of social relevance or is inspiring change.

The projects have to be in the early development stage (synopsis, treatment, research etc.) or in production. Participants will be guided by international documentary film professionals on how to enrich their projects with practical exercises and constructive feedback, with masterclasses and case studies with the participation of Moldovan documentaries filmmakers.

This intensive workshop is an ideal next step for more experienced filmmakers, journalists, and visual storytellers who have already identified a subject for a documentary and, ideally, have started production. Our new global reality has made us reevaluate how our LAB will happen this year and as the situation develops we will adjust the workshop accordingly to ensure everyone’s safety. We are preparing for all scenarios, adjusted to the participants’ technical needs and possibilities.

Therefore, the first module will take place in an online video format, and will be conducted by the renowned Swedish producer Hjalmar Palmgren (Executive Producer “Searching for Sugar Man”, producer “Big Boys Gone Bananas!*”) and the American documentary film director Melody Gilbert (director “Silicone Soul”, producer “Beneath the Ink” – both films screened at MOLDOX Festival 2018).

InterAction Workshop: intensive documentary filmmaking training for Civil Society Organization members

If you are a social activist or work in the non-governmental sector,  you might, sooner or later, think about film as a means of expression. It’s a powerful tool to raise awareness for your cause and to bring some justice by giving a voice to people who need it most. In your professional life, you hear incredible stories and you see things that need to be changed and  film is a very powerful way to do it. This workshop will give you the tools and contacts to plan, shoot and finalize a film. At the workshop, emphasis will also be put on short formats and online distribution. Nevertheless, we will also look at the basic principles of emotional and evocative storytelling. After participating in the InterAction workshop, you will be ready to use film as a great outlet not only for your marketing or for the cause you are fighting for but also to talk about your experience.

If you are a filmmaker and you see film as a tool to influence the world around you, you are invited to apply to the workshop, where you will have the chance to communicate and collaborate with people working in NGOs. By participating in the InterAction Workshop, you will have the opportunity to listen to their needs, stories and problems, and share with them the creative power of a documentary film.

The main objective of this workshop is to create a network and encourage you to use film as your medium of expression and work. In addition, we will connect you with international film industry experts and facilitate the communication between you and film professionals present at the festival, who could become potential partners for your projects.

To be selected for the workshop, we invite you to send us your film idea. If it’s convincing and can be done during the workshop, we will proceed together to plan, shoot, edit the film and present it at the closing ceremony of the fourth edition of the International Documentary Film Festival for Social Change MOLDOX!
